Thanks to our friend, Barak Lurie, Carol and I tried Crosroads for lunch. We will be going back. Crossroads offers a Vegan menu with many Gluten Free choices. I borrowed a few phots from their web site http://www.crossroadskitchen.com/ . Many choices of wines and spirits (we had only ice tea and water with our lunch since we were heading back to the office) displayed on the wall of the lunch room. The main dining room has a bar running along one wall. ). Soon we will try their dinner menu. Located at 8284 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046 323.782.9245

Ah to be 3 again. Our friend Rio celebrated her 3rd birthday with friends and family at Giggles 'N' Hugs http://www.gigglesnhugs.comweeblylink_new_window at Wilshire and Barrington in Los Angeles. Kids do have all the fun!
The Original Pancake House is one of my favorite restaurants. http://www.originalpancakehouse.com/ For the last few years we've traveled down to Redondo Beach for my birthday breakfast. Known for their Apple Pancake (more than I can handle) I order the 49'r pancakes. I'm still trying to find a recipe for this treat. Another favorite is the Dutch Baby. Fortunately their are a number of recipes online. For years I used one from a Williams Sonoma http://www.williams-sonoma.com/ catalog. Since they now sell a mix I can't find that recipe. The following recipe comes from Cooks.com http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1718,149183-244206,00.html
I use my favorite non-stick pan, a well seasoned iron skillet. This recipe calls for the following ingredients:
1/3 cup butter
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
"Place the butter in the pan and set in a 425 degree oven. While the butter melts, mix the batter quickly. Put eggs in blendder or food processor (I use a stainless steel mixing bowl and a whisk) and whirl for 1 minute. With motor running, add milk, then flour. Remove pan from oven and pour in batter. Bake until puffy and well browned (20 to 25 minutes).
Dust the Dutch Baby with powdered sugar or nutmeg. It may be topped with fruit or syrup or pie filling. Each Dutch bakes in a unique shape and is spectacular when it first come out of the oven."
Krispy kreme made a big splash a few years back when they came to LA. They still have at least one shop baking behind the glass in Burbank. The Los Angeles Times is tempting us to bake our own http://tinyurl.com/2bcyxlz weeblylink_new_window
I personally think Stan's Donuts http://www.stansdoughnuts.com/ in Westwood has some of the best. What do you think? This donut was photographed by Lawerence K. Ho for the Los Angeles Times.
